By Wishtrend Acid-Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser Review | Acid Cleansing?

Acid Cleansing? A cleanser that works as an exfoliator? Is that your reaction too? Because I loved the thought of having mild exfoliating properties in my cleanser without overdrying my skin. Beauty Barn India sent me their newer launches from By Wishtrend that had Acid-Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser and Polyphenols in Propolis 15% Ampoule to review.

In today’s post, I’ll be talking about the Acid-duo cleanser which I have been using religiously for the past 3-4 weeks. Let’s dive into the review and see if you need this product in your life or not!

Price: INR 1,350 or USD 19.00 for 150 ml

Availability: You can buy it from Beauty Barn India and my international audience can try Wishtrend.

Directions and Ingredients of By Wishtrend Acid Duo Cleanser
Directions and Ingredients

High Points of Wishtrend Acid-Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser:

  • LHA (Capryloyl Salicylic Acid): A derivative of Salicylic acid, LHA works by lifting dead skin cells off the surface of the skin, which means your pores are less likely to clog. It is non-comedogenic and anti-bacterial. The cleanser has 1% LHA.
  • PHA (Gluconolactone): PHAs are the most gentle chemical exfoliators. They have larger molecules than AHAs so lesser ability to penetrate into the skin. However, it works great for people who have sensitive skin and can’t tolerate AHAs. It has 1% PHA. The best thing about PHA is that unlike AHAs, it doesn’t increase photosensitivity.
  • pH of 5.5 which is pretty much the ideal pH of the skin.

My Thoughts on Wishtrend Acid-Duo Cleanser

The first impression was, well this looks good but pretty expensive. I don’t believe in investing a lot of money on cleansers because I go through them quickly and they’re with your skin’s contact for a short period of time. However, with regular usage, I can’t deny the fact that it did make my skin clearer and softer. And turned out to be an excellent cruelty-free cleanser that works!

Packaging

The Acid-duo cleanser comes in a sleek, baby pink coloured bottle that has a pump dispenser. The bottle is translucent so you can see the quantity. You have to twist the pump in a counterclockwise direction to unlock and use it. This mechanism ensures there’s no product spillage especially when you’re travelling or you just happen to drop it on the floor!

Texture & Smell

As the name suggests, the wishtrend cleanser has a gel consistency which gives a lot of lather when you rub between your palms. It doesn’t have any smell to it which is the best part for me! I have ditched a lot of good performing cleansers in the past due to their strong smell. (Hey Cetaphil, How are you?)

Application

See the image below, I need a little less than that (half a pump) to wash my face and neck. You have to take a small amount in your wet hands, lather between the palms and massage into the face concentrating on you T-zone and areas where you have whiteheads and blackheads. Keep that on for some 30-40 seconds (this step is best for oily skin) and then wash it off. I use this cleanser twice a day, morning and evening and it will last you approximately 10-12 months of regular usage.

How does it work?

Before starting on how the wishtrend cleanser performed on me, these are the few things you should know:

  • Skin type – Oily, Acne-prone, sensitive, struggling with blackheads and whiteheads.
  • I stopped using any other acids the entire time I used this cleanser just to see how well it performs on the exfoliating front. (Hi, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid! I miss you.)
By Wishtrend Acid Cleanser Review
By Wishtrend Acid Cleanser Review

A foaming, acid-based cleanser sounds like a perfect (disaster) recipe that can give you Sahara-desert-dry skin post-rinsing. However, the wishtrend acid-duo cleanser is different!

My skin didn’t feel dry AT ALL, in fact, it felt soft with no dry patches anywhere.

On nights when I’ve been super tired, I skipped double cleansing and this cleanser alone helped me get rid of all the dirt, oils, sunscreen and a wee-bit of makeup that I apply to work. (My work makeup routine means a light coverage pressed powder) I have noticed slight oil-control and considering the fact that I live in Chennai, this is something I could definitely enjoy.

Post-cleansing my skin looked clean and felt smooth. As I said, I stopped using any other acids, yes no chemical exfoliation for approximately a month! And I don’t have a lot of complaints. I have struggled with blackheads and whiteheads my entire life. But for the past year, I have been taking proper care of my skin which has resulted in lesser pore clogging. I have mild texture issues on the nose now and the cleanser took care of that.

Does it help with acne?

Well, the presence of LHA (a derivative of BHA) does mean it’s good for acne-prone skin. However, I’m not able to give a clear judgement on that. I get acne mostly when I’m menstruating and this didn’t stop that. I didn’t expect it to, anyway. It’s very difficult to know if a product stopped your acne situation completely when you’re using a complete, good routine. But I definitely trust that its ingredients helped me keep my skin away from dirt, oil and clogged pores. (which helps you prevent acne)

Do I Recommend the Wishtrend Acid-Duo Cleanser?

There’s no clear answer to this. I have always believed in not investing a lot in cleansers because they’re in contact with your skin for a few seconds or minutes. However, this wishtrend cleanser worked really well and is also cruelty-free. So here are a few reasons that explain who should buy it:

  1. If your skin is very sensitive and can’t cooperate with potent acids like AHA or BHA, this one is gentle enough and does a decent job.
  2. If you don’t have major skin problems, just some comedones here and there with combination or oily skin, you can just buy this cleanser and save money on heavy and expensive actives.
  3. If you have oily skin and need something to reduce the oil-secretion, the By Wishtrend cleanser is a must.
  4. In case, leave-on salicyclic acid treatments are too drying for you then including BHA in a wash-off format is a gentler option.
  5. You want to start delving into the world of actives but too scared to try out the potent ones out there. This could be a nice mild option for you.

I’m very impressed with this cleanser and it is slightly better than my favourite Sebamed cleansing foam. I still love the Sebamed cleanser because it’s pretty good and affordable than the Wishtrend Acid-duo cleanser. But, I was looking for a cruelty-free alternative to it and I’m so glad I found it!

Conclusion

The By Wishtrend Acid-Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser is an amazing choice for people who are battling clogged pores and dull skin. Its gentle and non-drying formula makes it a good choice for sensitive skin.

Why You Should Buy the Wishtrend Acid Cleanser?

  • Mildly exfoliates the skin
  • Sensitive-skin friendly
  • No fragrance
  • Sleek & practical packaging
  • Cruelty-free
  • Cleanses without drying
  • Best for combination to oily skin
  • Gentle on skin

Why You Should Avoid the Wishtrend Acid Cleanser?

  • Slightly expensive
  • Very mild. Can’t replace actives in your routine if you have problematic skin.

Very nice and detailed review. Acid cleansers seems new. I haven’t tried any till now. This seems good for clogged pores and whiteheads..

Yes, it definitely was. I believe Neutrogena even has one cleanser that has 2% salicylic acid, so does Cipla! You can try any of these if interested 🙂

I like the information you provided here. Helpful review. It lasts a year, right? Definitely trying to include it on my wish list. But, I have second thoughts coz of the use of mild bha twice a day, it may dry my skin overtime, especially if used daily.

Hey thank you so much! So they’re using a very mild derivative of salicylic acid here called LHA and 1% is pretty low for it. It’s also inflammatory and wouldn’t dry your skin overtime.

Not every product will remove your acne or stubbor Not every product will remove your acne or stubborn dermal PIH. But do they suck? Maybe they have ingredients that will help you in maintaining your skin?🤔

In many cases, the brands are to be blamed too. They tend to overpromise and underdeliver which sets wrong expectations in consumers.

👉 Anyway, these were just my thoughts and idk about the research behind it. Take it with a grain of🧂

✨Feel free to drop in your skincare queries.✨

‼️By no means I want to imply that skincare is as important and necessary as food. That was just an analogy.😌
I see too many "Oh it's just hydrates the skin" bu I see too many "Oh it's just hydrates the skin" but,

What if your skin is dull because it's not hydrated? What if you're breaking out because your barrier is impaired due to lack of moisturization? What if your face feels tight because it's dehydrated? What if the minor fine lines are a result of lack of hydration? Hydrate your skin... with skincare products ofc, not by drinking water😋

PS: apologies for playing with the emoji. I got carried away🥳

I have a super low maintenance hair (not the scalp I have a super low maintenance hair (not the scalp though but that's another story). They're straight, moderately frizzy, not too dry, and not too dense. Now let's see how the @nykaabeauty Onion & Fenugreek haircare worked for me. (gifted)

TL;DR Shampoo is good.

𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹?
I don't know. I do shed a lot of hair in general but I don't sit and count them. I don't want to stress about nothing. I do have certain areas that lack density but idc atm, I'll marry rich and use the guy's money to get a transplant or something.

👉All I can say is, the shampoo cleanses the hair well, lathers really well for an SLS free shampoo, doesn't strip the hair, and didn't trigger more hairfall in my case. The texture is runny and the packaging is convenient.💙

𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞-𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙪𝙛𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙤, 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙥 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙮.🥳

Which shampoo are you using these days? Do you like it? Hate it? Meh it?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿?
I expect a conditioner to soften and detangle my hair. And this one failed. The softness is OK-ish, doesn't help with frizz, and my hair feel tangled. It's as good as not applying any conditioner. And as I said, my hair is easy.

👉I tried different combos and the shampoo works great with other conditioners. In my case, it's the flawsome kinky berry mask.

𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 & 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴
The packaging attracted me to these products the most. White and lavender 🥺 make me look forward to hairwash days. They're priced well too considering how everything costs atleast 700 these days🌚

Why do you take hard balm, rub it directly on your Why do you take hard balm, rub it directly on your cheeks harshly, immediately add water, and then complain it's not working? Heinn?

PS: Yes I know some brands have really soft cleansing balms that melt as soon as you touch them. Exception. Also depends on the weather condition. But I'm mostly referring to when people take a chunk that resembles cold, hard butter on their cheeks and aggressively try to rub it. Don't do it imo.
It's a close call between the two but if you refer It's a close call between the two but if you refer to the comparison, @spektacosmetics wins... for everyone except me😭 Hear me out, okay?

For me, strategically placing oil on skin with a tool is OK. But rubbing oil between my fingers is like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard. The squeal sends shivers down my body and same is the case with oils. I know it's weird and isn't the case with most and I get it. But that's just me. So it's a very personal choice. For you, it'll be a plus point because the oils actually nourish your nails and the skin around it. Also, the packaging is cute.

➡️Talking about nailpolish removal,

They both work fine when I'm working with lighter colours but the true ability of a nailpolish remover is revealed when I test it with my OPI Big Apple Cherry.

Colorbar stains the hand I use to hold the cotton and my nail bed, Red. I kind of have to work hard to get rid of that. Don't enjoy that. It's relatively easier to remove with Spekta.

Which nailpolish remover would you choose?

Khadija (@beautyanomaly) tagged me to share 8 thin Khadija (@beautyanomaly) tagged me to share 8 things about myself and it really took me a while to think of all these points. I didn't know that I didn't know much about myself but here you go:

1. I've always achieved well academically just by putting in the least efforts.

2. I like to impress people (both online and offline) and make them happy so I get really nervous and tired while socialising.

3. I haven't watched Harry Potter. Ok maybe I have (a part or two) when I was a kid. But I really don't care about it. Same with DC/Marvel or whatever sci-fi comic stuff that exists. Don't unfollow me.

4. I like to overplan, decorate, and organize. I can't wait to have my own place so I can decorate it the way I want.

5. I'm very scared of October. I have lost 3 close family members in the past 3 years - each of them in October.

6. I'm camera shy and that's why I've been delaying my YouTube appearance. I just don't wanna look ugly and awkward.😭

7. I sometimes sniff my underarms on days I don't take a shower. The weird smell makes me gag but I still like it.

8. No matter how hard things get, I never actually complain about life. I'm always very grateful. Might be surprising because I don't talk much about positivity and shitting rainbows🌈. But that's because it's a part of my nature so I just think it's like, idk, brushing your teeth? You don't need to tell people to do that because you think they already do.

My love letter📝 to @aveenous For more than 3 y My love letter📝 to @aveenous

For more than 3 years, I stepped out of the shower with red, itchy skin mostly on the upper body. It'd take at least half an hour to settle down no matter how much I moisturized. I changed bodywashes and soaps and even changed water as I moved cities but nothing worked.

Initially I accepted that this is how it's going to be but the annoyance made me decide to visit a doctor and get it checked. But the pandemic happened and my appointment was postponed indefinitely.

Around the same time, I found the Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash. It was fragrance free and had oatmeal to soothe the skin. It felt like a perfect match so I asked my followers about it. They unanimously approved it✔️ (thanks guys!) and I went ahead with the purchase.

Ever since I have started using it, there hasn't been a single case of redness. No itching either. So gentle, calming, non-foaming - truly a skin relief💙 I can't imagine trying any other body wash now 🥺 Thank you for making this!

With love❤️

𝗝𝗮𝗻 '𝟮𝟭 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 For me emptying existing products >>> buying new ones. Tell me what you finished this month!

Before the world shut down, I had moved cities multiple times in just a year and a half. And I had to allot an entire huge suitcase for my cosmetics. I'd literally walk in railway stations and airports with 2 big suitcases and a heavy backpack all alone😭 and that made me abhor clutter even more.

So my life goal (lol) now is to finish everything I have. Let's see my empties:

💦 @pixibeauty Vitamin-C Cleanser - Good quality micellar water. If you're not into cleansing oils and balms, try it. (PR)

💦 Pixi Glow Cleansing Gel - What an underrated cleanser! No foam at all and absolutely non-drying. Love it, do try💙 (PR)

🧴@sulwhasoo.india FCA - It surprised me! Was expecting irritation but I got hydration, calmness, and supple skin. Wasn't suprised enough to repurchase though. But I'm intrigued by the brand and want to try the emulsions and sleeping packs. (PR)

💠 @laneigeindia White Dew Essence - Has a viscous, gel-like texture. Decent in terms of hydration but the sweet artificial scent is too strong for my liking. Skip🤞
